2019
In 2019, we upgraded M/V Paolo Topic into the first hybrid solar bulk carrier in the world. Solar panels engineered for marine conditions, paired with a hybrid propulsion and control system.
The result: reduced fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and a vessel that set a new standard for what a bulk carrier can be.
2025
In 2025, we piloted the use of biofuels aboard M/V Alberto Topic and M/V Jalma Topic. The pilot grew from our decarbonisation strategy, upcoming FuelEU regulation, and a natural inclination toward innovation. Turning strategy into action, we have strengthened the economic case for decarbonisation, alongside the environmental one.
2026
M/V Maria Topic follows M/V Paolo Topic. In 2026, we introduced WASP, Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion, the latest step in seven years
of development. Fitted to one of our Ultramax carriers, it reduces fuel consumption and emissions.

Topic Energies
Topic Energies was born directly from fleet experience. We do not license someone else’s technology and bolt it on. We design it ourselves, with partners, evolving it year on year through direct experience on our own vessels. SEAOLAR is the proof: our maritime solar system, engineered specifically for bulk carriers, is now a commercial product available to other shipowners. And there is more to come.
